Sophie Schouten

My name is Sophie Schouten and I live in Utrecht. I lived abroad for quite some time and have therefore experienced first-hand just how important a teacher’s role is when learning a new language in another country. My experience motivates me to make newcomers feel welcome and to help them find their place in Dutch society. It gives me great satisfaction to help them learn Dutch and, in doing so, make them more independent and confident.

My strength lies in combining enjoyment with practical application. What I particularly love is when students proudly tell me during lessons how they’ve managed to use Dutch in their everyday lives. After all, that’s what it’s all about!

To date, I have delivered training courses for organisations including the City of Utrecht, Utrecht Summer School and Alliander. As well as Dutch, I also speak German and English, which makes it easier for me to take into account the backgrounds and needs of participants with different mother tongues.
