German 4 course (B1- → B1+)

Level: Upper-Intermediate (B1/B2)

Are you going to study or work in a German-speaking country? Or do you have a job where you have to be able to speak German frequently? Or do your in-laws only speak German? In the German level 4 course you will learn to speak more fluently and you will work towards language level B1+.

This course is not currently scheduled. Could a private course be something for you? Or take a look at our other group courses.

About German 4

In the German Level 4 course, you will learn to speak with increasing fluency and work on your receptive vocabulary.

  • You refresh your knowledge of grammar. As a result you will improve your German language skills.
  • You learn to recognise small nuance differences in the German language and learn how to apply them in both spoken and written texts. Think of small differences in meaning between the tenses or between two conjunctions.

This course follows on German level 3, but can also be taken separately if you have B1- level. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

Learning goals

In the German level 4 course you work towards language level B1+.

After completing this course:

  • you can have a say in German about current developments.
  • you are able to write texts in German at B1 level more easily.
  • you are ready for the German level 5 language course.

Method

  • The teaching method we use in this course is the book ‘Spektrum’ for language level B1+. This book is specially developed for adult learners. In addition, it contains additional online exercises that allow you to practise with the lesson material.
  • Each lesson starts with discussing the previous meeting. After that you will work alternately in class, in groups or individually on interactive assignments. During the lessons, you will regularly practise your conversational skills in pairs.

Time investment

  • German 4 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
  • To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on self-study. You will receive teaching materials and assignments for this purpose. During the meetings, you will of course have the opportunity to ask questions.
