About the Japanese 4 course

Would you like to feel more confident in Japanese and rely less on English for support? In this course, you’ll focus specifically on speaking, listening and reading. Ideal for a study exchange in Tokyo or Kyoto, or for business dealings with Japanese clients and suppliers. You’ll practise conversations in Japanese, apply grammar correctly and learn to use new characters.

In 9 Japanese lessons:

  • you will use informal verb forms correctly.
  • you will use contracted verb forms correctly.
  • you will understand and construct sentences with multiple verbs.
  • you will write simple texts in Hiragana and Katakana.
  • you will use the imperative to ask for help.
  • you will express your feelings using the imperative.

In this course, you will work towards language level A2-. By the end, you will be able to take part in conversations with greater ease and write simple short texts in Japanese. You will have a better understanding of the language and express yourself with greater confidence. If you have actively participated in at least 80 per cent of the sessions, you will receive a certificate of attendance from us.

Method

Approach

You’ll work on listening and speaking skills in class, in pairs and through targeted exercises. The teacher covers grammar and lessons from the textbook, and provides further explanation using handouts, vocabulary lists and examples on the board. This allows you to practise the language actively, and you’ll gradually find that you’re using Japanese more and more naturally in everyday situations.

Teaching Materials

You will be using ‘Genki 1 Third Edition’ and the accompanying workbook, supplemented by handouts on grammar and vocabulary lists. This way, you will not only practise the rules, but also apply the language directly through reading, writing, listening and speaking. Before the course begins, we will let you know how you can easily order the course materials, so that you can start your lessons well prepared.

Teachers

You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will guide you step by step through your learning process. The teacher will provide targeted feedback on your pronunciation, grammar and communication skills. You will also gain an insight into Japanese culture, customs and language usage, so that the language really comes to life.

Certificate of Participation

You will receive a certificate of attendance from us if you have actively participated in at least 80 per cent of the sessions.

How do I know which Japanese language level suits me?

To make sure you enrol at the right level, you can take our free placement test. This test will help you assess your current level of Japanese. Once you’ve completed it, the test will be marked by one of our experienced teachers, who will provide you with personalised feedback. That way, you’ll know exactly which level suits you best.

Can I make up a missed Japanese class?

Unfortunately, in group courses it is not possible to make up a missed lesson, because the lessons take place at fixed times for the whole group. Through the lesson materials, homework and lesson plan in MyBabel, you can work through the missed material independently, so that you can continue to follow the course well.

Can I pay for my Japanese course in installments?

You pay the course fee in a single payment. You can do this upon registration via iDEAL, credit card, or by having your employer pay the invoice.

What are the advantages of a group language course?

A group language course offers the opportunity to learn and practice with others. You benefit from interactive lessons, learn from the questions and experiences of fellow students, and have plenty of opportunity to use the language actively. In addition, the group dynamic often provides extra motivation and a pleasant learning environment.

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom is a live online language course in which you take lessons together with a teacher and other students. You participate via Zoom or Teams, for example, and actively practice during the lesson. This combines the interaction of a group lesson with the convenience of online learning. Many students choose this form because of its flexibility.
