About Geman 6

  • The meetings are all about discussing. You learn to communicate effectively and argue your opinion. You choose a topical subject on which you give a presentation in class. In this way, you learn to speak more confidently and seek interaction with the audience.
  • We read an essay by a young upcoming philosopher. Each lesson, we discuss a chapter. This is not only good for your language skills, but also introduces you to German-language popular science texts.
  • You practice using formal word combinations and using different writing styles.

This course follows on German level 5, but can also be taken separately if you have B2- level. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

Learning goals

In the German level 5 course you will work towards language level B2.

After completing this German course:

  • you can confidently discuss a variety of topics with German-speaking interlocutors,
  • you will be able to write pleasantly readable texts,
  • you can understand complex texts,
  • you will be optimally prepared for living, working or studying in a German-speaking
    environment.

Method

  • The teaching method we use in this course is the book ‘Spektrum’ for language level B2. This book is specially developed for adult learners. It contains additional online exercises that allow you to practise with the lesson material.
  • Each lesson starts with discussing the previous meeting. After that you will work alternately in class, in groups or individually on interactive assignments. During the lessons, you will regularly practise your conversational skills in pairs.

Time investment

  • German 6 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
  • To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should spend approximately 3 to 4 hours per week on self-study. This is more self-study than in the lower-level courses. You will receive teaching materials and assignments for this purpose. During the meetings, you will of course have the opportunity to ask questions.
