About the Russian 2 course

Would you like to build on your basic knowledge of Russian? In this course, you’ll work on speaking, listening, reading, and grammar. You’ll delve into verb forms and further expand your knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet. This will help you read more fluently, better understand spoken texts, and have simple conversations in Russian with increasing ease.

In 9 Russian lessons:

  • you have mastered all the cases and the three verb tenses;
  • Do you recognize the three verb tenses;
  • you can understand listening passages at the word level;
  • you’ll learn all the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet;
  • have a simple conversation in Russian;
  • apply your grammar more actively in practical exercises.

In this course, you will work toward language level A1. By the end of the course, you will be able to read Cyrillic more fluently, understand spoken Russian better, and have simple conversations in Russian with greater ease. After completing this course, you can move on to the follow-up course, Russian 3.

This course is for anyone who already has an initial foundation in Russian and now wants to build on it. You want to become more confident in speaking, reading and listening. The language of instruction during the course is Dutch, but the teacher also speaks Russian whenever possible. You are motivated to practice actively outside of class. This way you make rapid progress and get the most out of the lessons.

Our teaching method combines a structured approach with hands-on working methods. The lessons are active, personal, varied and practical. There is always attention for your learning style, pace and level. Curious about how we design this course?

Approach

You work alternately in pairs, small groups and classrooms. You will practice speaking and listening exercises and delve into grammar. The teacher also uses additional material, such as ((cartoon) films and games, so that the language is reflected in a lively and practical way.

Teaching Materials

You work with the book “Passport to Russia” (text and workbook), supplemented with additional exercises. The material helps you to further build grammar, reading and listening skills in a structured way. Before the start of the course we will inform you how you can easily order the teaching materials, so that you can start your lessons well prepared.

Teachers

You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will personally guide you in learning Russian. The teacher provides targeted feedback on your pronunciation, grammar and communication. In addition, you will gain insight into Russian culture, customs and language usage so that the language really comes alive.

Certificate of Participation

You will receive a certificate of participation from us if you have actively participated in at least 80% of the meetings.

How do I know which Russian language level suits me?

To make sure you enrol at the right level, you can take our free placement test. This test will help you assess your current level of Russian. Once you’ve completed it, the test will be marked by one of our experienced teachers, who will provide you with personalised feedback. That way, you’ll know exactly which level suits you best.

Can I make up a missed Russian class?

Unfortunately, in group courses it is not possible to make up a missed lesson, because the lessons take place at fixed times for the whole group. Through the lesson materials, homework and lesson plan in MyBabel, you can work through the missed material independently, so that you can continue to follow the course well.

Can I pay for my Russian course in installments?

You pay the course fee in a single payment. You can do this upon registration via iDEAL, credit card, or by having your employer pay the invoice.

What are the advantages of a group language course?

A group language course offers the opportunity to learn and practice with others. You benefit from interactive lessons, learn from the questions and experiences of fellow students, and have plenty of opportunity to use the language actively. In addition, the group dynamic often provides extra motivation and a pleasant learning environment.

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom is a live online language course in which you take lessons together with a teacher and other students. You participate via Zoom or Teams, for example, and actively practice during the lesson. This combines the interaction of a group lesson with the convenience of online learning. Many students choose this form because of its flexibility.
