About Arabic 2

In this course, you start reading and writing Arabic script. You will be introduced to a number of basic rules, such as verb conjugations, pronouns, articles, plurals, prepositions et cetera. Together with the other students, you practise having conversations: you learn, for example, how to ask for directions, how to order something in a restaurant or how to talk about everyday topics.

You combine your acquired knowledge of vocabulary and grammar so that you can formulate sentences and short texts and practise the pronunciation of sounds that are only found in Arabic. The course will give you enough skills and confidence to hold a simple conversation with a native speaker.

The course is suitable if you have completed Arabic level 1 or if you have A1– level through other means. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

Learning goals

In the Arabic Level 2 course, you work towards language level A1-. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

After completing this course you:

  • can write simple letters in Arabic.
  • know how to ask and answer various questions in Arabic.
  • are ready for the Arabic level 3 course.

At Babel, you will learn Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). This is the official language in the Arab world and is used in the media, books, newspapers and documents. The spoken language is different in every region, but if you master the MSA, it is relatively easy to then learn a dialect of a particular country or area.

  • As a teaching method, we use the book ‘Mastering Arabic 1’. This method contains a varied range of texts and exercises. Thanks to the accompanying website and app, you will be able to learn the Arabic language in an interactive and constructive way. We assume that you have the book with you during the first meeting.
  • The lesson often starts with a short review of the previous lesson and questions from the students. Work is done in class, individually or in groups on the exercises from the textbook and additional tasks. The teacher covers grammar in class. Sometimes a CD is listened to and then an exercise is made based on it. When working with other course members, the emphasis is on speaking and conversational skills.
