Have you followed the Italian level 3 course and do you want to further develop your Italian skills? Or have you acquired knowledge of the Italian language in another way? In the Italian level 4 course you work towards language level A1+.

About Italian 4

This course is suitable if you have completed the Italian Level 3 course or if you have achieved language level A1 by other means, for example by successfully completing the Con Piacere 1 teaching method. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free online entry test.

In this course, you practise reading longer articles and looking up specific information in written texts. You will understand the main idea of an article and be able to answer a number of questions about it with ease.

In the area of speaking and writing skills, you will work on more complex sentences structures such as formulating a sentence in imperative. You will also learn the infinitive construction and the conditional construction for hypothetical situations. In addition, you will become familiar with the following topics: Italian proverbs, talking about someone’s character, human body and sports.

Enrolling in an Italian course? Then you get a free membership of the cultural association Dante Alighieri in Utrecht! This will allow you to participate in cultural events and lectures throughout the year.

Learning goals

In this level 4 course, you work towards language level A1+.

After completing this course you:

  • can make confident telephone calls in Italian;
  • you can effortlessly write Italian texts on a wide range of topics;
  • will be optimally prepared for a temporary or permanent stay in beautiful Italy;
  • will be ready for the Italian level 5 course.

Method

  • During the meetings, you practice the grammar lessons from the book under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
  • For many assignments, you work in pairs, giving feedback on each other’s work. This is not only instructive for the other person, but also for yourself.

Time investment

  • Italian 4 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
  • To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on study and the completion of materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the classes.

Practical

  • The teacher will speak Italian as much as possible. Participants can ask questions in Italian or in Dutch.
  • You can order the necessary books for this course via our website’s Order Books page. You should make sure to have the book before the start of the first lesson.
  • You will receive a certificate if you attend at least 8 of the 9 classes.
