About French 2

In the French level 2 course, you will challenge yourself further and develop even more in terms of French language and culture. Through conversation, vocabulary and grammar, you will improve your language skills and become more confident when speaking with native French speakers.

  • The main aim of the course is for you to improve your receptive language skills. This means that you will be able to understand French speakers better and read simple French texts more easily. You will also be able to answer questions in French about the content of these texts.
  • In addition, the emphasis is on improving your speaking skills and pronunciation. You practise in pairs and receive feedback from an experienced teacher.
  • In addition, the teacher regularly schedules time for interactive lessons. These include listening to and analysing well-known chansons or discussing current developments.

This course follows on French level 1, but can also be taken separately if you have A1- level. Not sure what your language level is? Then take our free placement test.

Learning goals

In the French level 2 course you work towards language level A1+.

After completing this French course:

  • you can answer questions about relatively simple French texts,
  • you have increased your knowledge of basic pronunciation and grammar,
  • are you ready for the French level 3 course.

Method

Each lesson starts with a discussion of homework and a brief review of the previous meeting.

  • Using audio recordings, you will engage in listening exercises and learn to understand French native speakers. An important part of the meetings is practising conversations. You do this in pairs, together with another student.
  • The teaching method we use in this course is the book Le nouveau taxi! (workbook and textbook). This method has been specially developed to teach adults to speak French quickly. Each chapter contains a listening text, a grammar topic, a speaking exercise and a pronunciation exercise. We assume you have the book with you during the first meeting.

Time investment

  • French 2 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
  • To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on study and the completion of materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the classes.
