Amsterdam is where I grew up, and later I lived in various places in the Netherlands and abroad. My working life has also been varied. After working for many years as a lecturer and historical researcher at university, I have been working as a Dutch teacher since 2010, most recently at Babel. As well as Dutch, I speak French, German and English. In my role as a teacher-developer, I develop new courses, design tests and exams, and teach Dutch – mainly NT2 but also NT1. I also teach intercultural studies. I offer all of this through standard courses and tailor-made training courses, both for individuals and groups.

I find it inspiring that, through my work, I can make a small contribution to helping people live together in the Netherlands. My interest in tailor-made training programmes lies primarily in the higher, academic language levels, and as a teacher I enjoy observing and sensing which teaching approach is best suited to each student. Beneath the initial language request there are often more specific language needs, and my students appreciate my ability to identify these and respond to them.
