About the Language Booster Speaking B1 Dutch

Do you feel unsure during conversations? Do you find it hard to come up with the right words quickly? Are you unsure about grammar? Are you around the B1 level, but does speaking remain a stumbling block for you? This Speaking Language Booster will bring your speaking skills up to the B1 level. Topics covered in this course include: study & work, your living environment, communication & media, and art.

In 8 Dutch lessons:

  • you have a larger vocabulary;
  • you speak Dutch more grammatically correctly;
  • your pronunciation will be clearer and more natural;
  • you’ll speak more fluently and with less hesitation;
  • you’ll approach conversations with more confidence;
  • you’ll practice through presentations, role-plays, and discussions.

In this course, you’ll focus specifically on improving your speaking skills. You’ll work exclusively on what you need right now: learning to speak better, more fluently, and with greater confidence at the B1 level.

If you successfully complete the course, you will have reached the level required for the State Exam in Dutch Program I in the area of speaking. It is important to note that this Language Booster is not exam preparation. During the lessons, we do not practice the specific speaking exercises that appear on the exam.

After the course, you can continue with The Language Booster: Speaking B2 Dutch. Or you can continue to improve your writing skills with The Language Booster: Writing B1 Dutch.

Approach

In this course, you will learn effectively using a blended approach; both at home and in class, you will be engaged with learning materials designed by Babel. During the course, you will be given various speaking assignments for which you will receive a grade, such as giving a presentation, role-playing, and leading a discussion. The grades for all assignments combined will make up the final grade.

Teaching Materials

During the first lesson you will receive a reader that we will work with mainly during class. At home you do preparatory work so that there is plenty of time to practice and deepen during the meetings. You will also receive access to the online learning environment that is filled with grammar videos and exercises that you can do at home.

Teachers

You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will give you targeted feedback on your pronunciation, grammar and speaking skills. The teacher guides you step by step and provides a safe learning environment in which you dare to speak, are allowed to make mistakes and visibly grow in your Dutch.

Certificate of Participation

You will receive a certificate of participation from us if you have actively participated in at least 80% of the meetings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which Dutch language level suits me?

To make sure you enrol at the right level, you can take our free placement test. This test will help you assess your current level of Dutch. Once you’ve completed it, the test will be marked by one of our experienced teachers, who will provide you with personalised feedback. That way, you’ll know exactly which level suits you best.

Can I catch up on a missed Dutch class?

Unfortunately, in group courses it is not possible to make up a missed lesson, because the lessons take place at fixed times for the whole group. Through the lesson materials, homework and lesson plan in MyBabel, you can work through the missed material independently so that you can continue to follow the course well.

Can I pay for my Dutch course in installments?

You pay the course fee in a single payment. You can do this upon registration via iDEAL, credit card, or by having your employer pay the invoice.

What are the advantages of a group language course?

A group language course offers the opportunity to learn and practice with others. You benefit from interactive lessons, learn from the questions and experiences of fellow students, and have plenty of opportunity to use the language actively. In addition, the group dynamic often provides extra motivation and a pleasant learning environment.

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom is a live online language course in which you take lessons together with a teacher and other students. You participate via Zoom or Teams, for example, and actively practice during the lesson. This combines the interaction of a group lesson with the convenience of online learning. Many students choose this form because of its flexibility.
