The difference between IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge
There are multiple English language exams. Many people wonder what the difference between these exams are. This article gives you a description of both General English exams and college or university entrance exams. Hopefully it will clarify what each course consists of and is suitable for. There are roughly five exams you can choose from:
The IELTS exam is designed to test the language ability of people who want to study or work where English is used as the language of communication.
IELTS was developed in the UK, but is widely accepted by educational institutions, employers, professional registration bodies and government immigration agencies that require proof of English language skills as part of their recruitment or admission procedures. In fact, IELTS is recognised and accepted by over 9,000 organisations worldwide, including universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.
You can select the module that suits your goals, either Academic or General Training. The exam includes speaking (face-to-face interview with examiner), writing, listening and reading. Results are obtained within 13 days and the results are valid for 2 years after the test date.

The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand English at university level. It also evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. The average English skill level ranges between Intermediate and Advanced.
The exam is suitable for students planning to study at a higher education institution, for admission to an English language programme, students and workers visa applications.
The exam is computer-based testing speaking, writing, listening and reading skills online. TOEFL test scores are valid for 2 years after test date.
TOEFL was developed in the USA, but more than 9,000 colleges, agencies and other institutions in over 130 countries accept TOEFL® scores. Immigration agencies which issue residential and work visas, and medical and licensing agencies also use TOEFL® for professional certification purposes.

Cambridge First Certificate
Cambridge English: First (FCE) is an upper-intermediate level language qualification. It proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or study courses taught in academic or professional institutions.
Cambridge English: First is recognised by thousands of educational institutions, employers, governments and other organisations throughout the world.
