Portuguese has few recognisable words. Yet you can learn a lot of this language in a relatively short time. With practical exercises, you will quickly learn to hold a conversation. Although European Portuguese is slightly different from Brazilian, this course will also help you get around Brazil.

Learning goals
In Portuguese level 1, you will work towards language level A1-.
After completing this course you can, among other things:
- express yourself in a simple way in everyday situations.
- understand a text in outline.
- introduce yourself, ask for directions, greet someone, order in a restaurant, etc.
Method
- As a teaching method, we use the book ‘Português em Foco’. In this course, we work with audio files that can be found through your my.babel.nl account.
- The teacher also uses own teaching material in handouts. Music is also used, as well as role-plays and simulations.
Time investment
- Portuguese 1 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
- To ensure that you learn as much as possible from the classes, you should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours per week on study and the completion of materials and assignments, which will be discussed during the classes.
Practical
- The teacher will speak Portuguese as much as possible. Participants can ask questions in Portuguese or in Dutch.
- You can order the necessary books for this course via our website’s Order Books page. You should make sure to have the book before the start of the first lesson.
- You will receive a certificate if you attend at least 8 of the 9 classes.
