Intermediate Dutch – intensive course (A2 → B1)
With this semi-advanced Dutch course you work towards B1 level. You learn to communicate better and more easily in Dutch. And you’ll have more confident conversations with native Dutch speakers.
About the Intermediate Dutch intensive course
In the Intermediate Dutch course, you’ll learn to communicate more effectively and with greater ease. You’ll practice the language through topics such as studying, working, and living, as well as politics and art. You’ll learn to support your opinions and further expand your vocabulary. This will enable you to engage in conversation with native Dutch speakers with greater confidence.
In 34 Dutch lessons:
- you write simple, clear texts on personal topics;
- you describe your experiences, impressions, and wishes more clearly;
- you express your opinion using appropriate arguments;
- you’ll understand texts on familiar topics better;
- you’ll expand your vocabulary by about 2,000 new words.
Standard or Intensive Option
This course consists of 34 sessions and is available in two options. In the standard option, you attend class twice a week. If you choose the intensive option, you attend class four times a week and complete the course at a faster pace. The content and learning objectives are the same for both options.
In the course, you will work toward language level B1. Upon completion, you will be able to participate more easily in conversations in Dutch, understand texts better, and write simple texts yourself. After the course, you can continue with Advanced Dutch Course (B1→B2).

Each class lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Frequency
You take classes 2 times a week in the Regular variant and 4 times a week in the Intensive variant.
Self-study
You spend 8 hours per week on self-study in the regular variant and 4 hours per week in the intensive variant.

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn the Dutch language (NT2). You have completed our Course Beginners Dutch (A2) or have achieved language level A2 through other means. During the course you work actively and independently on your learning goals, both in class and during self-study.

Approach
During the meetings you work a lot in small groups or pairs, always under the guidance of an experienced teacher. You practice with recognizable situations from everyday life, so that you learn to apply the Dutch language directly in practice.
Teaching Materials
You work with the book ‘De sprong’. This book is specially designed for highly educated people who have already mastered the basics of Dutch, but are not yet ready for the Staatsexamen. It contains original material from newspapers and magazines and helps you to further develop language in a natural and appealing way. Before the start of the course, we will inform you how you can easily order the teaching materials so that you can start your lesson well prepared.
Teachers
You will be taught by an experienced teacher who will personally guide you and help you get the best out of yourself. Because of the open atmosphere, you will learn not only from the teacher, but also from the experiences of other students.
Certificate of Participation
You will receive a certificate of participation from us if you have actively participated in at least 80% of the meetings.
