Do you feel insecure in conversations? Do you find it difficult to find the right words quickly? Are you unsure about grammar? Are you at around B1 level, but speaking remains a stumbling block for you?
This Language Booster is the ideal solution if you need that extra push to strengthen your speaking skills at B1 level and communicate more easily in everyday life or at work.
During this course, you will work specifically on improving your speaking skills. You will focus solely on what you need right now: learning to speak better, more fluently and with more confidence at B1 level.
The TaalBooster Speaking course brings you to level B1 in speaking skills. Each week focuses on a specific theme. Topics covered in this course include: study & work, your living environment, communication & media, and art. You will learn effectively through a blended approach; both at home and in class, you will work with teaching materials designed by Babel.
During the course, you will be given various speaking assignments for which you will receive a mark, such as giving a presentation, playing a role play and participating in a discussion. The marks for all assignments together will form the final result.
The course is suitable for anyone who has completed our Intermediate Dutch (B1) course but whose speaking skills still need improvement. If you have not completed our B1 course, it is important that you take our free placement test. This will ensure that you start at the right level.
Our courses are aimed at higher professional education and university graduates, which means that the learning pace is relatively high.
Learning objectives
In this course, you will work on strengthening your speaking skills at language level B1.
After completing the Language Booster:
- you will have a larger vocabulary.
- you will speak Dutch more grammatically correctly.
- your pronunciation will be clearer and more natural.
- you will speak more fluently and with less hesitation.
- you will engage in conversations with more confidence.
Method
At Babel, you learn through a blended approach. After registering, you will receive access to the online learning environment, which is filled with grammar videos and exercises that you can do at home. During the first lesson, you will also receive a reader that we will mainly use during the lessons. You will do preparatory work at home so that there is plenty of time during the meetings to practise and deepen your knowledge.
Time investment
The course consists of eight sessions of one hour and 45 minutes at Babel in Utrecht.
To ensure that you get the most out of the course, we expect you to spend approximately four hours per week on self-study. You will complete assignments at home in preparation for the next session.
Practical
- The course is conducted in Dutch.
- The course specifically guides you to level B1 for the speaking component. If you successfully complete the course, you will have reached the level required for the State Examination in Dutch Programme I in the area of speaking. It is important to note that this TaalBooster is not an exam training. During the lessons, we do not practise the specific speaking exercises that appear in the exam.
- You will receive a certificate if you have attended at least 80% of the sessions and completed the homework assignments.
