Did you obtain your medical degree abroad and would you like to work in healthcare here? In order to work in the Dutch healthcare sector, registration in the BIG register is mandatory. Healthcare workers must obtain a language certificate for this. The language level for academic professions is B2+. This group of healthcare providers must obtain the B2+ language certificate in order to apply for BIG registration.

The full exam for the B2+ language certificate consists of two tests:
- Reading and writing
- Listening and speaking
Reading and writing are therefore only one part of the language certificate exam. To obtain the language certificate, you must also complete the listening and speaking components.
Preparation for the test is not included. If you are taking the test, you already have a good command of Dutch. Would you like to prepare thoroughly? If you pass both parts of the exam, you will receive your B2+ language certificate, which you can use to apply for BIG registration. This is an important step towards being qualified to work working in the healthcare sector in the Netherlands. You may retake one of the two tests if you only pass one.
The reading and writing component of the B2+ language certificate for medical professionals is structured as follows:
You will read a text related to Healthcare and Welfare and write an essay of 300–350 words based on that text. This part of the exam lasts a maximum of 1.5 hours.
At Babel, you will take the exam in a professional, quiet environment. This will be supervised by experienced language assessors with knowledge of the healthcare context.
On the day of the test, you will spend approximately two hours on location to take the exam. In addition, it is important that you prepare well. You can do this by taking a course, for example. The time investment varies per person and depends on your starting level and your choices regarding preparation.
