About Arabic 7

In this course, you will learn to communicate more fluently and speak more confidently. All skills in the course are covered: speaking, listening, writing and reading.

Through role-plays, prepared and unguided conversations, videos and audio clips and by discussing various practical situations, you learn to speak spontaneously about various topics such as climate, media, society and culture. You will also have sufficient skills to write a clear text on a given topic.

  • In this course, you practise reading longer articles and looking up specific information in written texts. You understand the main idea of an article and can answer a number of questions about it.
  • You will work on difficult sentence structures such as giving advice and criticising a subject. You will learn to use the passive form in the present and past tense to describe processes, for example.
  • You also learn the simple future tense to express future events or plans.
  • Knowledge of Arabic culture is not unimportant here: therefore you also learn about Arabic proverbs, expressions, variation of pronunciation in dialects, etc.
In addition, you will become familiar with the following topics: current affairs and news, the human body, health, film genres and arts.

The course is suitable if you have completed Arabic level 6 or if you have attained A2 level via another route, for example by successfully completing the Mastering Arabic 1 teaching method and the Mastering Arabic 2 teaching method (up to chapter 9). Learning goals

In the Arabic Level 7 course, you work towards language level A2+.

After completing this course you are able to:

  • speak more spontaneously with native Arabic speakers.
  • understand the main idea of longer Arabic articles.
  • write a clear text on a current topic.
  • work with people of Arabic background.

Method

  • As a teaching method, we use the book Mastering Arabic 2. This method contains a varied range of dialogues, texts, exercises and cultural insights. Thanks to the accompanying website and app, you will be able to learn the Arabic language in an interactive and constructive way. We assume that you have the book with you during the first meeting.
  • During the Arabic Level 7 course, we actively apply and repeat the material from Arabic 1 to 6. In addition, we will expand our knowledge by continuing to work with the book ‘Mastering Arabic 2’ (up to chapter 9). Make sure you have repeated the knowledge from chapters 1 to 9 before starting the course.
  • The class starts with a brief review of the previous lesson and answering questions on homework. Work is then done in class, individually or in groups on the textbook exercises and additional tasks. A multitude of interactive work formats are used during the lessons to actively involve the learners.
  • All skills are covered during the lessons, but the emphasis is on speaking and listening skills. The language of instruction is Arabic as much as possible and authentic texts and videos are used as much as possible.

Time investment

  • Arabic 7 consists of 9 sessions of 1,5 hours at Babel in Utrecht or in the virtual classroom.
